Living
In 1902, William “Bobby” Gilbert provided the Arizona Eastern Railway some land so that it could build railroad tracks between Florence, Ariz., and Phoenix. So it was that Gilbert quite unintentionally lent his name to the town.
When it became incorporated in 1920, Gilbert was first and foremost a farming community, calling itself the Hay Capital of the World until the 1920s. The growing city owed much of its prosperity to the railroad line, the construction of the Roosevelt Dam, as well as the Eastern and Consolidated Canals.
Today, the Town of Gilbert spans more than 75 square miles. It has developed into a diverse community of highly educated, mostly affluent residents. With phenomenal employment opportunities in health services, high technology, and clean and renewable energy, it’s no wonder that several corporations have made Gilbert their regional headquarters.Schools, Health, Transportation
