Located in the Valley of the Sun, Tempe, Arizona, is home to more than 161,000 people, according to the U.S. census of 2010. The city, an eastern suburb of Phoenix, takes its name from the Vale of Tempe in Greece. Many people might assume that Tempe is just another cookie-cutter-type suburb; however, it’s actually a college town, playing host to Arizona State University, which just happens to be adjacent to a large metropolitan area.
In addition to ASU, Tempe is home to the Maricopa County Community College District administrative offices, the headquarters of Rio Salado Community College, and the University of Advancing Technology.

The City of Tempe utilizes several school districts to fulfill its public school needs. These include the Tempe Elementary School District, Tempe Union High School District, Kyrene School District, Scottsdale Unified School District and Mesa Public Schools.
The hospitals and medical centers that serve Tempe are the Banner Desert Medical Center, Chandler Regional Medical Center, and Arizona Regional Medical Center.
Those who travel via airplane, for business or pleasure, will like to know that Tempe is only about a 10-minute drive from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Commuters who drive their own vehicles can make use of the convenient freeways in and around the city, including Interstate 10, Loops 202 and 101 and U.S. Route 60.
Public transportation in Tempe is a breeze. Valley Metro bus service and the METRO light rail system shuttle folks to and from downtown Tempe, the ASU campus, and the nearby cities of Mesa and Phoenix.
The City of Tempe also provides Orbit, which is a free shuttle for the campus of ASU and areas near there.
